LINC UP is a community development non-profit that creates the infrastructure for resident-led change to occur by connecting who you know, what you know, where you live, and what you make. LINC UP connects residents to resources to ensure they have opportunities to improve their quality of life. ChoiceOne has been working with LINC UP since opening its new branch office in Downtown Grand Rapids in 2018.

“As a local community bank in Grand Rapids, we are always actively looking to build relationships with the individuals, families and businesses in the communities we serve,” said ChoiceOne Bank President Mike Burke. “LINC UP is an excellent partner because they ask many of the same questions we do when committing our time and resources to our communities. We both want to help invest our time and resources where they will have the most impact today for the people in our communities who are underserved. LINC UP gets it.”

Rock the Block is more than just a block party. It’s an opportunity to bring residents and the community together, showcase local talent, inform the community of the many resources available and give back. LINC UP understands that neighborhoods matter. Rock the Block is a representation of how valuable neighborhoods are to our communities.

“We wanted to partner with an organization that puts communities at the forefront of their mission and vision similar to ChoiceOne Bank,” said ChoiceOne Bank Assistant Vice President and Grand Rapids Branch Manager Eunice Lopez-Martin. “Many of the resources LINC UP looks for in a partnership are the resources ChoiceOne Bank brings to the community such as financial literacy and first-time homeowner education. I was actually scheduled to start teaching Financial Literacy courses before the coronavirus stay-at-home order changed our timeframes. We are still hoping to host one of our First-Time Homebuyer Seminars this July or August. And of course, we will be volunteering at the Rock the Block event August 15!”

“We truly believe it is our moral responsibility as a community bank to commit time and resources to the individuals and families in our communities who are underserved,” said Burke. “Our donation to sponsor Rock the Block and volunteer at this great event certainly expands our partnership with LINC UP to further our community involvement in Grand Rapids.”
