ChoiceOne Bank is pleased to announce Adom Greenland, CPA, has been named one of the 40 Under 40: Emerging Community Bank Leaders by the Independent Banker, the flagship publication of Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA). This award recognizes up-and-coming community bankers who demonstrate exceptional potential in leadership, innovation and community work.
ChoiceOne Bank Chief Operating Officer, Adom Greenland
Greenland is Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for ChoiceOne Bank. Joining the Bank in 2013 after a career with a global accounting and consulting firm, Greenland’s experience in finance and leading high performing and diverse teams has translated well to Community Banking. With responsibilities for the Bank’s Technology, Retail, Operations and Marketing Departments, Greenland progressed quickly into his leadership role with his blend of enthusiasm, positive attitude, and drive to innovate.
"ChoiceOne Bank has a special culture, one that is driven by exceptional customer service and a deep understanding and caring for the communities we serve,” said ChoiceOne Bank President and CEO Kelly Potes. “Adom has the unique ability to bridge the gap between the complex technology world and the Bank in a way that both can benefit while still maintaining the service and feel of our community bank.”
Greenland is recognized nationally as a technology innovator in the community banking space by forging partnerships with exciting local Fintech companies. With these partnerships, Greenland sees state-of-the-art opportunities and gets involved early and works side by side with exciting technology companies to pilot and refine technology so it’s ready for other banks to use.
ChoiceOne Bank has benefited from Greenland’s leadership with national recognition regarding technology innovation. These awards include being named a 2018 “Most Innovative Community Bank” by the Independent Banker Magazine. Twenty community banks were chosen throughout the country for their innovation in the areas of technology, products and branch design. In addition to this award, ChoiceOne was nominated for multiple other awards highlighting innovation, technology and marketing, including awards from Best of FinXTech and BAI Global Innovation Awards.
Broadening the Bank’s footprint further into West Michigan and driving technology into the branch network, Greenland spearheaded the purchase and renovation of a new full-service, state-of-the-art branch office in downtown Grand Rapids.
This fast-paced innovation carries into the culture of ChoiceOne Bank and the communities it serves, as well. Greenland has a natural ability to empower staff across all levels of the Bank. He listens to staff and challenges them and the Bank to do more in the community with the tools available through the Bank.
Under Greenland’s tutelage, ChoiceOne Bank received the coveted National Community Bank Service Award presented by the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) in 2017 for providing innovative banking solutions and bi-lingual financial literacy programs to the employees of local farms. This was a tremendous undertaking for ChoiceOne as Greenland led the charge with a combination of finding the right technology solution for the farm workers in the area, while also encouraging more staff to get excited about offering additional bi-lingual service. The program continues to expand today with more farms offering these secure banking services to their employees. See https://www.choiceone.com/choiceone-bank-receives-national-community-bank-award/.
In 2019, ChoiceOne Bank received the 2019 Financial Literacy award from the Michigan Bankers Association (MBA). Again, Greenland spearheaded a team to partner with local foundations to find the right technology solutions, overcoming operational challenges and empowering staff to teach financial literacy in the classrooms and offer KickStart to Career programs.
“These initiatives are just a sampling of the many programs Adom has helped ChoiceOne develop and offer to our customers and the communities we serve,” said Potes. “Adom has pushed ChoiceOne Bank to embrace innovation, both in our technology and how we serve our communities. These accomplishments reflect Adom’s impact, as he has helped to lead ChoiceOne Bank into a progressive future of high-touch and high-tech banking. Adom is a pleasure to work with and we are all very proud Adom won this award.”
Greenland was chosen as one of the 40 young innovators who are making waves in the industry but still manage to keep their communities front and center. For more information see https://independentbanker.org/2019/06/40-under-40-emerging-community-bank-leaders/.
“This group of young professionals should give all of us a sense of pride and optimism as we look to the future of America’s community banks,” said Matt Kusilek, publisher, Independent Banker. “Now more than ever, this industry sees the value of the energy and ideas of people like our emerging leaders, who believe in the importance of the community banking model. We’re really pleased to be able to highlight their accomplishments so far and look forward to what they’ll do next.”
